PFA FANS PLAYER OF THE MONTH: the weekends star performers from the Premier League

It was an exciting weekend of Premier League action after the international break – and a number of star performers staked their claim for the PFA Fans’ Player of the Month award for September. Here are a few of the contenders...
JERMAIN DEFOE (Spurs)
The England international clearly has a point to prove this season, and looked at his sharpest best against Reading at the weekend. His first goal was a typical poacher’s effort, whilst his second was all of his own making – a blistering 50-yard run and clinical finish...with his wrong foot!
LUKAS PODOLSKI (Arsenal)
Much was made of the departure of Robin Van Persie, and the question remained...who can fill his golden boots? Enter German international Lukas Podolski. After a brief settling in period at the Emirates, Podolski is now showing his class and his stunning free kick goal had RVP (or should that be RIP) stamped all over it.
DIMITAR BERBATOV (Fulham)
Described by one commentator at the weekend as a ‘big fish in a small pond’ after treading water atManchester United, Berbatov is already revelling in his role as ‘the main man’ at the Cottage. His first goal was sublime, typical Berbatov, and his second from the penalty spot was arrogant, confident and the strike of a man happy in his new home.
PAUL SCHOLES (Manchester United)
Once a legend; always a legend. Paul Scholes continues to conduct the Manchester United orchestra in time-honoured fashion. It was only fitting that he should mark his 700th appearance for the Red Devils with a goal in the 4-0 win over Wigan. Keep an eye out for new signing Nick Powell too.
